iPhone XR vs Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Speed Test

On paper, the $999 Galaxy Note 9 with its massive screen, dual camera setup at the rear, and 6GB of RAM will seem superior to many than the $749 iPhone XR with its paltry 3GB RAM. However, as a speed test from YouTuber PhoneBuff shows, the iPhone XR can easily best what is among the best Android device out there in terms of app loading times.

Thanks to its A12 Bionic chip, the iPhone XR is notably faster than the Galaxy Note 9 in loading apps and heavy games. Both devices launched 16 apps in the speed test in which the iPhone XR took 1 minute and nearly 52 seconds, while the Galaxy Note 9 was slower by 13 seconds and took 2 minute and 5 seconds.

The Galaxy Note 9 makes use of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 chipset which is among the best chip available for Android devices right now but its simply no match for the raw horsepower of the A12 Bionic.

The tables did turn in the multitasking comparison which involved loading the said 16 apps from the RAM of the devices. Since the Note 9 has twice the amount of RAM of the iPhone XR — 6GB vs 3GB, it is not surprising to see the former win this round of the speed test. The iPhone XR simply failed to keep most apps in its memory while the Note 9 performed impressively and finished the second lap in just 33 seconds. The iPhone XR was slower by 13 seconds this time around and took 46 seconds.

We saw a similar thing play out in the iPhone XS Max vs Galaxy Note 9 speed test where the latter lost out in app loading times but performed impressively in the multitasking department.
